# C - Ecosystem

#### **Ecosystem is how BSL senses and understands the field it works within, including itself.**

Where Infrastructure is what the lab runs on and Operation is how work is governed and run, Ecosystem is how BSL perceives: the living map of what exists in its field, the lenses to read it, and the read on its own health.

The layer builds from substrate to synthesis. Foundation establishes what the field is, what it is made of, who is in it, and how it is arranged. Dimensions gives the analytical lenses to read it in depth. Map renders it so it can be seen and viewed through its many frames. Pulse holds its live signal, the things actors are seeing and raising in the moment. Coherence synthesizes all of it into the lab's read on its own state: whether the whole is healthy, aligned, and holding together.

A note specific to BSL: this layer reads the lab's field through BioXD, the same dimensional model the lab builds for bioregions. Where another lab would adopt the dimensions as an inherited lens, BSL develops them and uses them natively, perceiving itself and its field through the very instrument it builds. A fitting recursion for a bioregional systems lab.

This is the sensing step of BSL's larger loop: the lab perceives itself and its field here, the rest of the system orchestrates and acts on what it perceives, and the cycle returns. The domains below take you into each part.
